About Me

Hello, I'm Lara, a recent Oxford University graduate!

I have been working as an online Chemistry and Maths A Level tutor for six years now and have helped many students build their confidence and improve their grades. I am very passionate about the subjects I teach and love working with my students.

I've always loved Chemistry and Maths, and really enjoy helping other students develop a better understanding of these subjects. I've had previous experience through peer mentoring during college, and I am also an assistant sports coach.

My favourite part about peer tuition is when a student has a breakthrough and the subject clicks for them. I'm hoping that my enthusiasm for the topics will make tutorials interesting, as I always found that my most engaging teachers were the ones who were passionate about what they teach.

I can also offer advice for university admissions, how to make a successful Oxbridge application, taking the Oxford TSA, and generally selecting and applying to universities.

My credentials:

I graduated from Oxford University in 2021 with an integrated Masters in Chemistry, achieving an upper second class degree. I took A Levels in Chemistry, Biology, Maths and Further Maths, attaining A* grades. Whilst studying at uni I joined the online tutoring site MyTutor, and through there I've completed over 4400 lessons with over &20 5 star reviews from my students/parents. You can see my tutoring profile for this website by using the link below.

About the lessons
A Levels and IB are a challenge, and especially so in the current climate after all the disruption to education. There are so many benefits to one-on-one support in learning, and I love to help my students develop their understanding and build their confidence whilst working towards the grades they want for university. I like to have a full understanding of the content a student needs to know before I carry out a session. I will always revise through a student's syllabus before tutorials.

I am a firm believer that the best way to learn is to talk a topic through with someone else. By having a discussion, you can really establish exactly where your weaknesses and strengths are, and personally I find it much easier to remember information that someone has explained to me, as opposed to reading it from a textbook. I also find diagrams very helpful as part of explanations. Everyone learns in different ways, and visual representation is often very effective. I also use short video's occasionally in lessons, such as demonstrating chemistry practicals, to reinforce that learning.

I am happy to run tutorials that are mainly prepared by myself before hand, or to just work on whichever topic the student wishes to on the day - it is up to you! I have lots of helpful A Level and IB resources to use for lessons, as well as access to many different past paper questions to use as practice.

I offer 1 hour lessons, although am happy to discuss different times. I am very flexible, lessons can be booked on a week by week basis as I appreciate schedules can change! Last minute bookings are fine permitted I am not already booked up for that day.
